Foster to Adopt

What Is Foster To Adopt?

Our foster to adopt program is not the same as purchasing one of our puppies, if you are looking for a puppy to purchase please check out "Our Puppies" page.
The Foster to adopt program gives our breeding dogs a permanent home right from puppyhood rather than putting them through the stress of trying to place them later in life, at their retirement. Foster families do not pay to be part of our foster program, they are hand selected by us and provided with a dog free of charge.
We do genetic testing on all of our dogs prior to entering them into our breeding program. We also have all of our dogs OFA certified for hips and elbows as well as having other health screening done at various points in their life. If you love the Labrador breed, and have always wanted the best in health guarantees, this is a program for you! To learn more about the health testing we do CLICK HERE.
As long as the foster dog is in our breeding program, we would be more than happy to look after him/her during vacations and weekend getaways. We love our dogs and consider them family, regardless if they are foster dogs or not!

Things To Consider Before Applying

A foster family takes care of the daily needs of their foster dog. Health testing related to breeding will be completed at our expense for each dog in the breeding program when required prior to and after breeding. Only the day-to-day costs of owning a dog (vaccines, food, standard health care etc.) will be the responsibility of the foster parents. An ideal foster family will live around our geographical area.

Dams will require time away from their foster homes when they are needed to breed and during whelping. Foster families will be required to monitor the foster dams for signs of heat and return her to us promptly when it is time for her to breed or have puppies. You can expect the dog to be away from home for 1-2 weeks for breeding and then around 8 weeks for whelping and puppy rearing annually. Our foster families are more than welcome to visit the foster dog during their stay with us and to see their litters. Families fostering our sires will have to live close to our geographical area as we will need access to them promptly for breeding. Sires will also require time away from their foster home when they are needed to breed dams. All breeding’s and whelping’s will take place at our property, under our direct supervision.
Fostering these exceptional dogs is a great sacrifice and we need to trust all of our foster families with our beloved dogs. For that reason, full contracts and home checks will apply and we will have to meet all members of the household. Families experienced with large breeds are preferred as well as those who already have a dog at home or have have/had experience breeding. While these things are preferred, they are not required and will be assessed on an individual basis.

Some of the perks of the foster program are a free puppy, a free place for your dog to stay during vacations, and any other discounts on products/services/food that we receive and can pass on to you. As the breeder, we retain full rights to breeding and or showing the dogs in our foster program when required.

Retirement

Dams will retire from our program after a maximum of four litters, but they can be excluded from the program at any time at our discretion. After the dam has been retired or excluded from the program, we will have the dog spayed and transfer full ownership to the foster family. Sires are breed to our dams until they are around 10 years of age. We also cover the cost of the spay or neuter for any of the dogs entering their retirement.
